This is a funny picture of what they thought home computers would look like in the future.

    love the dual steering wheels.

perhaps needed for navigating your computer-controlled Hover-House around the skyway?

or are they to control the flow of halon gas when the thing bursts into flames?

    ;-)

The TV is pasted, and so are the wheels. The highlights on them do not match the room lighting. The teletype machine also appears pasted in because of the very sharp line at its base and the lack of brightness changes there. I bet the man is pasted as well. The stuff in back looks like some kind of industrial control display. All those gauges for a computer? More like for electrical/fluids metering.

The stand in front probably has a legend describing the presentation, hidden by the pasted teletype. I do agree tho, the wheels are a nice touch!

Hi, Peter. Take away the television and the guy in a suit, and you’ve got the maneuvering room on a nuclear submarine. When our boat was underway, I used to operate the steam plant (left side, with two wheels: ahead throttle and astern throttle) and the electric plant (right side). In port, I stood watch at the middle panel.

This is definately a mock up of a US Nuclear ‘Skipjack class’ submarine maneuvering room obviously minus the computer terminal, domestic TV set and the old bloke in the ill fitting white suit. I know this because this type of maneuvering room was fitted to HMS Dreadnought, Britains first nuclear submarine, the propulsion end (aft end) which was supplied by the US in the 1960s. I was on the Dreadnought as an Electrical panel operator and later a reactor operator2. The panels are from left to right, Throttle panel, Reactor panel and Electrical panel.
